The Shop is an architecturally consistent, 3 storey Georgian building with a shop on the ground floor and living accommodation consisting of 4 spacious rooms and a substantial landing area on the two floors above. It is the smallest building in the Anglia Dolls Houses range2 but is richly fitted out with some of the features of the larger dolls houses in the range. Built from birch plywood to 1/12th scale, this house is for the adult enthusiast who wants a shop that will be something special and different to an MDF kit.
Shop Photographs
Exterior
The shop has double fronted multiple paned windows with a glazed central door. Outside the shop front there is a pavement with grouted slate-effect flagstones upon which, depending upon the type of the shop, goods could be displayed.

Interior
The standard building is decorated throughout with wall colours appropriate to the late Georgian period. The staircase from the shop emerges into a spacious landing area from which doors lead to the parlour, morning room and further stairs to the second floor. Access to this landing area is provided by an opening side panel.
Skirting is fitted to the first and second floor rooms and coving to the rooms of the first floor. The internal wooden doors are all painted with turned brass door knobs.
There are grouted, slate-effect, flagstones in the shop while the rest of the building has scribed floorboards with lifting boards that conceal the wiring for lights. The house is further wired for fires that could be added into the 4 plasterwork fireplaces. All fireplaces are fitted with a hearth stone.
A 6-arm brass chandelier is fitted to the parlour but everywhere else wall candles are used, in keeping with the no-nonsense status of this commercial building.
Ground Floor
The spacious shop area covers the entire ground floor. There is no skirting or coving in the shop area so that display units can be flush fitted to the walls. A cupboard staircase leads from the shop to the living accommodation above.

First Floor
The large first floor parlour and the morning room (or you could use it as an office) have dado rails and covings. On bespoke orders the rooms are available in a range of colours chosen from the Farrow & Ball colour card.

Second Floor
There are two good sized rooms on the second floor, each with fireplaces. These rooms could be used as bedrooms for a single family occupying the entire building or, as was often the case in Georgian times, multiple families would have rooms in the building with the poorest having the rooms at the top, with the most stairs to climb and furthest from the (often outside and communal) water supply.
Stairs
Stairs are a speciality of Anglia Dolls Houses. Although only a small shop there are two realistic cupboard staircases in which all the stairs are present including winding sections.
Lighting
From Autumn 2011 all fully decorated Anglia Dolls Houses include a package of lights as standard with a quality Smallworld digital transformer and Easy Wire fused distribution strip. If you prefer to specify your own choice of lights I can build these in for you. Wiring is concealed behind a false back panel, under lift up floorboards and also down the chimney breasts. The way that the wiring is done makes it easy for you to add further lights at a future date. See the Electric Lighting Datasheet for more details of the standard package of lights included with this house if purchased fully finished.
